Survivors’ participation in the Human Rights Council

Survivors’ participation in the Human Rights Council

Today we partnered with the US Mission to Geneva at an event at UN Geneva to provide a platform for four Syrian

women who shared their personal experiences of being in prison in Syria.

We thank them for their courage to tell us their stories. There are more than 215,000 detainees in Syrian prisons, of which more than half have

disappeared and are presumed dead or still in detention. Millions of their relatives live in limbo.

Among these detainees and missing persons are many women, the political community and civil society.

Most detained women suffer from physical, sexual and social violence, as well as disownment by their families and deprivation of their children.
