Job Announcement: Lawyer/Legal Advisor (Syria-Azaz)

Freedom Jasmine is looking for a dedicated and experienced Lawyer/Legal Advisor to join our team in Azaz, Syria. This role is part of a broader peacebuilding initiative that aims to empower women and vulnerable groups affected by conflict and displacement in Northwest Syria.

Key Responsibilities:
Legal Advice: Provide clear, concise and confidential legal advice to clients on a variety of matters, with a particular focus on women’s rights, family law, property rights and civil rights.
Case Assessment and Management: Assess and prioritize cases, with a focus on addressing issues affecting vulnerable women and displaced individuals.
Legal Documentation and Drafting: Prepare essential legal documents, such as contracts, affidavits and petitions, that can help clients protect their rights.
Legal awareness and education: Conduct sessions and workshops to educate women in the community about their legal rights, and enhance their ability to make informed decisions and protect themselves.
Networking with legal and humanitarian networks: Collaborate with local legal authorities, NGOs and humanitarian agencies to ensure that clients receive comprehensive support and maintain their legal rights.
Case follow-up: Regularly monitor the progress of cases, provide ongoing support and ensure that clients are informed of their rights and the status of their cases.
Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed and confidential records of all cases and prepare reports to the project manager on the impact of legal support activities.

Required skills:
Legal expertise: Strong knowledge of Syrian law, particularly in areas related to civil law and family law, and experience in advocating for the rights of women and other vulnerable groups.
Communication skills: Ability to clearly communicate complex legal information to clients in a way that enables them to understand and act on their rights.
Empathy and client-centered approach: An empathetic and respectful approach to working with individuals affected by conflict and displacement.
Community engagement: Skilled in conducting public awareness sessions and fostering a supportive environment for clients.
Confidentiality and Ethical Standards: Commitment to maintaining high levels of confidentiality and ethical behavior, ensuring client trust and safety.
Collaboration and Advocacy Skills: Ability to coordinate effectively with other legal, humanitarian and social service providers.

Job Requirements:
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Law or related field, with a focus on human rights or social justice as an advantage.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience in legal consulting, preferably with experience supporting women and vulnerable groups in conflict-affected areas.
License: Valid license to practice law in Syria.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in Arabic (required); knowledge of English is an added advantage.
